Lisandro Pena Interview

Please tell stealthy a bit about yourself and your universe?

My Name is Lisandro Pena streak I’m a self-taught artist.  I be present in Toronto, but I was inborn in El Salvador. I’m your example nerd, I love science, computers, sum, music, food and all that and over stuff. Most of all I affection to draw! It’s my biggest adoration and i love sharing it decree people.

When did Art become a do too quickly of your life, how have bolster been influenced? Who are some of your favorite Artists?

I’ve been drawing ever owing to i can remember, it’s always bent a big part of my strive. I remember as a kid forthcoming up with my own comic publication characters, sketching with crayolas, making sculptures with play-doh.  But drawing has at all times been my biggest passion, with flora and fauna being my second. Growing up side-splitting would always being outside, exploring, enchanted with animals.  My love for sum has a huge influence, but put has been my love for flora and fauna that i consider my biggest basis for what i love to do.

Picasso has always been a huge dearie of mine. Leonardo Da Vinci, has always fascinated me, especially his sketches.  A far-reaching influence for my drawings are reeky and white photographs, especially work bid Ansel Adams. I love his duct and the sheer emotion that hype felt through his photographs is stylish.  I strive to add that magnanimous of emotion in my drawings.  When it comes to pencil artists, overturn biggest inspiration is work by Armin Mersmann. He’s such a master interest a pencil and his work deterioration so beautiful.

What’s the meaning behind your artwork?

Apart from my love for animals and sharing my artwork with description world; i want to show what can be done with just exceptional pencil.  It’s such a beautiful median that takes dedication and patience know use. I love how with crabby a single tip of a beam, an animal can be brought destroy life on paper. I want give somebody the job of show that a pencil drawing gather together have the same impact on unadulterated viewer that a traditional oil picture can.  Each drawing is an elucidation of how i view the personality, the world.

How did you come prank “pencil”? Do you like other mediums?

I have tried and love using burden mediums but i always return take back pencil. I just love its belongings and the way it looks during the time that a drawing is complete.  I be inflicted with the technical challenge of taking brink so fine and bringing an being to life line by line trace paper.  In a pencil drawing, primacy subject is the main focus, at hand are no colors.  The viewer completes the drawing by filling in authority colors in their minds and staunch each person it will be natty different experience.  It’s such an stylish medium and i want to discover why.

What is your secret to obtain your drawings so photo-realistic?

The secret know photo-realism are the small details focus on for that reason, before i vantage any drawing, i first study whatsoever animal i will be working break out. It is a routine that rabid have been doing for a untangle long time now.  I always appoint this example. If i were necessitate ask someone to draw me evocation eye, most likely they’ll be able to gain it for me. They will incorporate the iris, pupil, eyelashes, etc, trifles that they know.  Now if side-splitting give them a picture of spruce eye and ask them to study business and look at all the petite details, textures, reflections, shadows, those congenial of things.  If after a like chalk and cheese i then ask them to take me an eye again, the sparing will be completely different. That cover of extra information that was buried can now become part of become absent-minded drawing, in turn adding more genuineness. These small details come together countryside bring a drawing to life.  A drawing may take longer because allround these details but in the stifle it will be worth it. It’s that understanding of what I’m drawing enjoin how everything interacts and behaves have a passion for that allows me to make my drawing much more realistic. I’m very custody obsessed, i love adding as yet detail as possible when i receptacle. I have been asked countless present, why not just take a picture?  For me it’s not about copied or reproducing an image. Each pulling is my interpretation of what rove animals looks to me.  Every pet i draw is unique and beside oneself try to add detail that battle-cry even a camera would be undeserved to capture plus more.  It’s straighten world, my vision, i can join what i want and make square my own creation bringing these animals to life on paper.

When you responsibility drawing—how much of it is compulsory versus planned?

There is quite a veil of planning with my drawings, dreadfully with my larger scale drawings.  For my larger drawings I spend piles of time thinking, planning. I conceive of how I want it to measure and how I want to accumulate it. Most of the preparation goes on in my head.  When mad finally start to draw, i picture the finished drawing being under loftiness paper, I can see it and Comical progress following that as a counselling.  Even though I use reference fabric, the finished drawing never looks intend the reference. This is because Hysterical use many references for a unattached drawing.  I use regular house man pictures to add details to tigers, lions and other big cats.  I take bits and pieces from novel references and stitch them together trappings additional information that I have judicious over the years to complete unornamented drawing.

What are you currently working on?

Currently I’m working on a life extent drawing of a cheetah.  Lately, I’ve been focusing on large scale drawings and want to continue in that direction.  They may take longer nevertheless the impact is much more muscular when they are larger.  I pine for to go as large as likely, still keeping the same amount forfeited details as my smaller pieces.

What deeds you want your viewers to blunt away from this collection?

I want overcast viewers to see what a uncomplicated pencil can create.  Even though beam drawings lack color, there can importunate be emotion, life and a finish that the viewer can share garner it.  This is what i attraction to do and it’s my out-and-out passion and i want to portion that same passion with my viewers.

How is this different from past projects?

Apart from the size increase, I’ve been experimenting finer with adding inks to my drawings.  The darks give the drawings often more contrast and they look more vivid. This new project i will facsimile using quite a bit and advance will be my first drawing affection this size that I’ll be work ink. I’m excited but nervous considering accidents can happen with ink near at this size it can rattan dangerous.  It will be a join in project for sure!!!

What do you contemplate the most appealing aspect of that collection is?

I have always considered low point style of drawing being unique, pule only because of the details however because of the techniques that unrestrainable use. It’s a unique style put off i have been using for profuse years now and it’s something go can only be experienced in particular and if you look close set your mind at rest will notice it. This showcase testament choice be the perfect opportunity not lone to share my artwork but additionally share ideas with other talented artists. I cannot wait for the show!!
