1976年群馬県生まれ。これまで多数の国内外の国際展や美術館で、社会と個人の関係を見つめた人間の深層心理に迫る映像インスタレーションを発 表してきた。テートモダン(ロンドン)やニューヨーク近代美術館MOMA(ニューヨーク)など世界各地の主要美術館に作品が収蔵されている。主な国際展として光州ビエンナーレ、シャル ジャビエンナーレ、上海ビエンナーレ、あいちトリエンナーレ等に参加。主な個展としては 「Projects 99: Meiro Koizumi」(MoMA、ユーヨーク、2013)、「捕われた声は静寂の夢を見 る」(アーツ前橋、2015)、「Battlelands」(ペレス美術館、マイアミ、アメリカ合衆国、 2018)等を開催。VR演劇「縛られたプロメテウス」(2019年)は、第24回文化庁メディ ア芸術祭アート部門で大賞を受賞。2021年には国際的なアートプライズであるArtes Mundi Prize(カーディフ、英国)を受賞。
